Welcome to Dolphin Class!

We are a happy and enthusiastic mixed-age class of Year 1 and Year 2 children who love to learn, explore and discover new things together.
Our bright and welcoming classroom provides a nurturing environment where children are encouraged to be curious, independent and confident learners. Dolphin Class is taught by our full-time class teacher, Mrs Gribbin, who is supported by our HLTA Miss Shaw during the mornings. Together, we work hard to ensure every child feels valued, supported and challenged in their learning.
Throughout the year, we work hard, support one another and celebrate our achievements, whilst having lots of fun along the way. We look forward to sharing our learning journey with you!

English
At ISP, we follow the I Am a Clever Writer scheme to develop children’s reading, writing, speaking and listening skills. Through engaging texts and exciting topics, children are encouraged to become confident, independent writers who can write for a range of purposes and audiences.
As a mixed Year 1 and Year 2 class, we enjoy exploring a variety of books, stories and non-fiction texts linked to our learning. Children take part in daily phonics sessions to develop their reading and spelling skills, alongside regular handwriting lessons to support neat, fluent letter formation.

We explore…
  • Story writing and retelling;
  • Character and setting descriptions;
  • Poetry and rhyming activities;
  • Non-fiction writing, fact files and reports;

Literacy

At ISP, we follow the scheme ‘Talk for Writing’. The children learn the story orally, incorporating actions and remembering repeated refrains. We work together to create story maps and retell the story through drama and song before moving onto various writing tasks linked to the focus story.

The children have thoroughly enjoyed focusing on a new book every 2/3 weeks and completing some amazing Literacy work linked to our topics.

We explore…

  • My Name is…
  • Letter formation and tricky word practice;
