Key documents:

At ISP, PSHE enables our pupils to become healthy, independent and responsible members of society. It aims to help them understand how they are developing personally and socially, as well as tackling many of the environmental, moral, social and cultural issues that are a large part of growing up.

As part of our PSHE sessions, we have been following the SCARF scheme of work.

This year, we have also introduced a whole school well-being scheme to support every pupil’s social, emotional and mental wellbeing. Every class participates in a weekly session aimed at equipping them with strategies to regulate and manage their mental health.

My Happy Mind is a scheme that allows our pupils to be supplied with the correct techniques to manage their mental health and wellbeing. My Happy Mind uses fun and engaging sessions to help children understand their emotions and how they can relieve themselves safetly and accordingly.

Within the My Happy Mind sessions, pupils are required to write in their journals about feelings and emotions. Using the session, they take the knowledge that they have learnt and use this to understand how the different parts of the brain works using their own experiences from the past and present.

In our EYFS classroom, pupils listen to a focus book each session and use the story to help them learn about their emotions and why they might feel this way. Children thoroughly enjoy My Happy Mind sessions and the interesting activities.

My Happy Mind allows the children to be able to take control of their emotions in a healthy and calming way. A technique called ‘My Happy Breathing’ is used to bring the children back to a peaceful and relaxed enviroment when they may be struggling with the management of their emotions.
