At Ireleth St Peter’s, the children participate in weekly RE lessons.

As directed by Carlisle Diocese, Christianity forms the main theme of our RE lessons (85%) with planned time (15%)  to explore other faiths.

Additionally, we ensure that children have the opportunity to learn about key religious festivals in context, at the time that they occur throughout the year.

The Christianity element of our RE curriculum is taught using the ‘Understanding Christianity’ framework developed by RE Today. The scheme aims to enable children to develop their own thoughts and understanding of a series of core topic questions themed around different areas of Christianity and consider how these fit into their own experience of life. This should allow children to develop their ability to ‘ think theologically’ whilst gaining a good knowledge of the bible. These topics are revisited and developed further each year to ensure that the children’s prior knowledge is built upon and their current learning progresses as outlined in the diagram below.
