Worship council has been formed this year to give the children in our school input into the way we worship in school.

Closely supported by Mrs Saunders (RE subject leader) and our local Reverend Canon Ruth Crossley (also Chair of Governors), the children have complete ownership of the council. The children have half termly meetings to discuss plans for taking ownership of daily worship and church services and participating in other faith based events in school.

Worship Council’s main aims are to:

• • Celebrate and create a sense of ‘Koinonia’ or fellowship through worshipping together in our school
  • Feedback on ways our children would like to be involved in Worship
  • Create and deliver Collective worship to their peers
  • Participate in church events, such as deliver bible readings and welcoming visitors
  • Participate in organising family group activities
  • Organise ways that we can use our christian values to support others.

Worship Council has been designed with the aim of allowing the children to take more ownership and lead worship in our schools effectively. Each year group in KS2 has a representative and they are involved in every aspect of the worship.

This includes practical components such as preparing the hall for worship and controlling the music, to leading more spiritual elements such as the hymns, lighting the candle or praying.
When conducting worship in the hall, some ways that you may wish for worship council to be involved may be:

• Welcoming the rest of the children eg- peace be with you (children reply and also with you)
• Putting out the benches
• Controlling the powerpoint/ music
• Lighting the candle
• Sitting at the front of the hall with you throughout worship, facing the children
• Reading a bible passage
• Saying a prayer or leading the Lord’s prayer

The children will meet with Mrs Saunders on a half termly basis and we will be discussing our roles as worship leaders. They will also be collaborating with 2 other schools to shadow and share practice over the year which will hopefully mean that they will have more ideas to incorporate as we progress through the year.
