The History of our School

The school foundation took place in 1608 and was endowed by Giles Brownrigg, a Local Landowner. The site of this original school was in Sun Street, opposite the Old Parsonage. Nothing is now left of that building except for a font, which was found in the garden of Cliff house, and a plaque which is in the entrance hall and states:

"Giles Brownrig caused this school house to be builded the 6 yeare of King James ano 1608 and gave a yearly salari to the schole maister for ever".

The present site was built in 1862. The school then being to what will be the the Key Stage 1 unit. Extensions to the building were dedicated and opened in 1962.
